We Are One is a civic engagement tool that helps Australians contact their elected representatives. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your information.

Information We Collect

Location Data: We collect your suburb and postcode to identify your electorate and relevant representatives. This information is processed locally and is not permanently stored on our servers.

Email Content: When you compose emails through our platform, the content is generated and sent directly from your own email account (via Google OAuth). We do not store the full content of your emails.

Accountability Records: If you opt in, we store a hashed record of your email activity for accountability purposes. This includes a non-reversible hash of your message (not the actual content), recipient IDs, and your state/electorate. This helps demonstrate genuine constituent engagement.

How We Use Your Information

• To identify your elected representatives based on your location
• To facilitate sending emails to your representatives via your own email account
• To provide aggregate statistics on civic engagement (anonymised)
• To improve our service and user experience

Data Storage & Security

Your session data (address, selected representatives, email drafts) is stored locally in your browser and is cleared when you click "Start Over" or clear your browser data.

We use industry-standard security measures to protect any data we do store. Our infrastructure is hosted on secure, reputable cloud providers.

Third-Party Services

Google OAuth: We use Google's authentication to allow you to send emails from your own Gmail account. We only request the minimum permissions needed to send emails on your behalf. We do not access your inbox or other Google data.

Google Maps: We use Google's geocoding service to convert your address into coordinates for electorate lookup.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Clear your local session data at any time using the "Start Over" button
• Revoke Google OAuth access through your Google account settings
• Request deletion of any accountability records we hold
• Contact us with any privacy concerns

Donations & Funding

We Are One is a self-funded civic engagement project that operates on donations. We do not sell your data or use it for commercial purposes. Any donations received go directly toward maintaining and improving this free service.
